Beautifully converted barns - with every amenity for a relaxing holiday.
*FOUR STAR ENGLISH TOURIST COUNCIL RATING* The converted STURGESS BARNS holiday homes are close to Longleat Safari Park, Stonehenge, Salisbury, the City of Bath and Thomas Hardy countryside. Built during the 18th and 19th century, these barns have been used until recently for their original purposes - storing hay and housing cattle. Prior to this, they were a part of a small tenanted farm on the Longleat Estate and House, which is close by. The barns have now been converted into three very comfortable, self catering holiday lets, sleeping 4 and 2 people. They are in an idyllic setting beside a typical chalk downland stream close to a number of small cottages, some of them thatched.
The barns retain their beautiful oak beams and trusses, and the massive oak floor beams and stone walls have been incorporated into the design. Combined with a high level of energy efficiency in the heating (gas condensing boilers) and lighting design as well as insulation, they represent a combination of best practise in sympathetic restoration with modern targets for environmental considerations. The location south of Warminster makes it an ideal centre for downland walking, horse riding and course fishing as well as visiting the ancient monuments of Stonehenge, West Kennet Long Barrow or the cities of Bath and Salisbury. There are footpaths right from the door which lead you onto the downlands or through the Longleat Estate forest lands and a short drive will take you to the extensive network of Ox Drove tracks and footpaths on the chalk escarpments. A pub and garage/shop are in the village (5 mins) and supermarkets in Warminster, 3 miles, with a 4 times per day bus service.
